Hi guys!!


 In this entry, I want to exclusively talk about simulation and modeling. Have you heard about these two terms? Based on the definition made by Bliss et al. (1992), simulation is the exploration of existing models. Modeling is the expression of one's ideas by constructing one's own models.
DNA Model

          Simulation and modeling are both vital to enhance better understanding of students. It is due to the fact that not every students are not good enough in visualizing every processes that explained by the teachers. So, the best solution is creating a medium to transform that abstract process into something concrete. Sincerely speaking, if it had not been for simulation, me myself, who is teacher to be, failing to understand and explain the process while science subject do involve many processes. Luckily during my time simulation has been widely used. In addition, simulation also assists teachers to demonstrate dangerous experiments, and life processes that are too lengthy for example human fetal development. Students can gain their understanding and develop their knowledge.

        Modeling, on the other hand, more to enable students exploring the effects on systems when they change certain variables. Thus, students will be actively learned when they try to find out something by discovering for themselves. Learning will be more meaningful. At the same time, this activity is actually developing the cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills of students.

         Based on the contributions of simulation and modeling, I personally think that teachers should look forward in utilizing this kind of technology for students' own good. Courseware that have been supplied to every school should not be wasted.

Today i would like to share one of my assignment on data logging..

first of all, did you know what is data logging?


In general, data logging means of all data generated by a device such as a lab instrument, or the data passing through a particular point in a networked computer system. Data logging is a common measurement application. In its most basic form, data logging is the measuring and recording of physical or electrical parameters over a period of time. The data can be temperature, strain, displacement, flow, pressure, voltage, current, resistance, power, and many other parameters. 

How data logging works?

data logger works with sensors to convert physical phenomena and stimuli into electronic signals such as voltage or current. These electronic signals are then converted or digitized into binary data. The binary data is then easily analyzed by software and stored on a PC hard drive or on other storage media such as memory cards and CDs.





In my assignment, my group tried to investigate how our body reacts when we are exposes to the extreme condition such as cold and hot to maintain our normal body temperature.
Most organisms depend on maintaining a consistent body temperature, regardless of how hot or cold the environment surrounding them is. This process can be accomplished either by changing behavior to become cooler or warmer and keep temperature levels consistent, or through internal processes of the organism. Sometimes, both behavior and internal processes of a complex organism work in concert to maintain this temperature. The ability to maintain a consistent body temperature is called thermoregulation.

Hi everyone!!

Today I would like to share one of my project with my friend in PHYSICS ENERGY course.
Actually we are given a task to produce or to design a renewable energy to generate an electricity. Mabye some of you not understand with the renewable energy term.

Renewable energy is the energy can can reproduce back or is will maintain in the ecosystem. For example hydroelectric and solar. Hydroelectric use the flow of water to generate energy. As long there is water flow the energy can reproduce same as the solar energy that depends on sun. However, for the non-renewable energy the source of the energy cannot be reproduce back or it take a million years to reproduce. For example, petroleum and coal.

my group has come out with brilliant idea which is JUNKYARD ELECTRIC POWER PLANT USING HYDROELECTRIC CONCEPT

Here is the steps to built a junkyard electric power plant



TURBINE

 1. A measurement of the required size of the Perspex are drawn  on the big Perspex.

2.    Octagon and rectangle shape are drawn on the Perspex by using marker.
3.       The mark then cut by using hack saw.

4.     The hole required are marked on the Perspex, and then drilled by using drilling machine.

5.      A steel bend is cut into required length and bended to form “L” shape.

6.      All the Perspex are combined to form a turbine by using steel bend, screw and nut.

LED CIRCUIT

1.      The LEDs are fixed on the board circuit.
2.      The LEDs are connected to the motor by using of wires.

ELECTRIC GENERATOR

  1. A used motor is picked and tested for it coil.It coil must be working for the generator to work.

2.         The motor centre spinning rod is taken out.
3.        Another rod that can match the motor hole is taken and was welded with a steel plate at its centre      4.        Three pieces of used magnet is taken out from the broken speaker of a cars.
5.         The magnet is binded to the steel plate at the centre of the rod.

HYDROELECTRIC GENERATOR STRUCTURE

1.         A small bicycle is taken as the turbine medium to transfer its power to the electric generator.
2.         The bicycle front is cutted at centre of the bicycle body.
3.         Back part of the bicycle tire rim is connected with belt to the generator rim.

4.         The base part of the structure is made of wood.
5.         The structure is like the picture shown above.

-          We have proceed with three trial and we calculated the average value for the voltage that we obtain from the multimeter.

-          We also went to the Sungai Samak, Tanjung Malim, Perak to test our hydroelectric because we want to know that our power plant can be generated  with the natural river   water. The velocity of the river was calculated.

Today I want to share of my project when I’ am participated in -à My Inovasi 2012ß-

Who knows what is MY INOVASI ?

This innovation competition is a program held by Ministry of Higher Education (MOE) to foster a culture of innovation and creativity for the benefit of the community.
My Inovasi competition is open to students of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) of universities, university colleges, polytechnics and community colleges.

The objective of this program are :
·         To enable students to develop their creativity and innovation talent
·         To enable the community and industries to benefit from the competition
·         To foster team spirit among students from various background
·         To inculcate competitive spirit and sustainable innovation among students

On the first stage of the competition, we have to send two pages of A2 poster size that state our problem statement, and idea.

Unfortunately, my group didn’t manage to second round but it gave me a lot of info and new experience according to the innovation of technology in Malaysia.

I hope the government should continue this program in the future because it can generate of idea on young people which is good for our country in future…



Some of my friend asks me how to create a simple and easy video ?
---àMY ANSWER IS WINDOWS MOVIE MAKERß---

Windows Movie Maker is one of the freeware software when you are user of windows product. This software allow you to make a video in very easy way. I will show you tutorial getting started with WMM.

Step 1: Open Window live movie maker.

Step 2: Import Pictures that you wish to insert into your video by clicking under the home tab on add videos and photos button.

Step 3: Import audio or song that you wish to insert into your video.

Step 4: Edit video transition, there are several video transition available by clicking on the Animation tab
·         The fastest way to create a movie is you only has to hit the Auto movie button
·         Once you click it the Windows Movies Maker will automatically manage you video transition, title, credits and trim your background sound.

Step 5: Add in the title for your video. You may also add in typing text into your video.

Our Government has come with a idea to integrate ICT in T&L process. They tried to bring a new approach technique in T&L process. Nowadays, we can see a lot of steps that has been taken by the government to integrate ICT in T&L process. For example :

It is well documented that ICT changes the nature of motivation to learn in a proper ways or just misuse of the technology provided by the government?

The use of ICT technology can provide pro and con towards teaching and learning process (T&L). It depends on us either to use them correctly or just abuse them. If we see on the pros side, ICT bring the T&L process more fun and attractive. If we see the conventional method of teaching, it is a little bit bored because it only about marker pen, whiteboard and book. ICT bring more excitement because it have educational games, interactive learning module, and many more.
However, ICT also can give some negative effect if there are misuses of those technologies. Misuse can happen on student and also teacher. Some irresponsible teacher will exploit the “technophobia” in a school. Since they equipment provided by government are not been used, those teachers will take or even sell the component of the equipment for their own benefit. This are totally break the ethic of a teacher.
On the context of student, the equipment used for non-benefit and time-wasting activity. Some student used the equipment like computer and projector for playing games, watching movie and even worst watching adult content films. This technology provides by government to help them in learning not to ruined their attitude and behavior. In addition, some student used the equipment as a place to wind off their stress. They commit vandalism by ruined the equipment to show off the anger or just do that for fun. 

What will be the long term impact of ICT on the teaching and learning process like maintenance and installation cost?

ICT hardware and software supply problems

Total provisions laboratories, computers, servers, and LCD projectors to schools based on students enrollment. Ministry of Education informed the board that as of September 2003 alone is there school computer lab project 4297 (3700 new labs and lab 597 modified) has approved its construction.
Supply or notebook computer to a teacher and lecturer for the use of P & P is still not enough. Only a small number of teachers and lecturers who acquire these facilities through specific projects or contributions. To improve the quality of teaching and learning, MOE will provide computers to teachers with a ratio of 1: 10 for the years 2002 to 2003. This ratio will be increased to 1: 5 in 2004 and 2005, while in 2006 and 2010, the ratio of computers than teachers is 1: 1.
Although plans were made, computer hardware supplied to the department or division is still not sufficient to meet the requirements of KPM personnel because of the constraints of the money. In addition, most computers supplied are low-capacity model and not linked to the internet facilities when the need for these facilities is increasing the insistence of tasks, communication needs, and meet the challenge of realizing e-government.

Poor maintenance of computer

Computer lab at school certainly face problems in terms of maintenance. Many laboratories in schools unmanageable because no expertise in terms of maintenance. Given the computer lab does not have a science lab as a lab assistant who has her own laboratory assistant, the maintenance work for now rests on the shoulders of teachers of information technology itself. Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said that most of the 75 computer laboratories that have been handed over to the contractor suffered damage, especially in the roof of the building, and he also confirmed that a total of 574 out of 600 computer laboratories in the eastern zone of insecurity and dangerous to use. (Utusan Malaysia July 19, 2003).
About 30 percent of computers in school labs across the country is problematic because computer hardware  used more than five years, often breaks down. According to the President of the Teachers Union Malays of West Malaysia (KG-MMB), Mohamed Sabri Mohd Arshad, inefficient maintenance system, including the need to wait between 3 to 5 months before the damage repaired. If a computer breaks down, the school must report to the IRB before the problem was brought to the attention of the NRD. Not all complaints be addressed immediately because some nonchalant attitude causes a computer technician come to repair damaged computer for months after the complaint is made.

Is there any specific skill needed to acquire by teacher in order to be effective in an ICT based learning environment?

Teachers who produce instructional materials in the form of multimedia. Lack of skilled in ICT is a major Norida Suhadi (2001) to 100 graduate and non-graduate teachers found that only 10% of problem faced by teachers in developing teaching materials in the form of multimedia.
This occurs because due to the negative attitude that exists among teachers. For example, there are a handful of skilled teachers who do not use ICT at school and they do not have our own initiative to solve the problem. For those skilled in ICT is a disadvantage because they have to set aside time to plan and produce R & D activities using ICT.
Lack of infrastructure and support material and trained personnel to assist teachers in the use of ICT is a cause that caused the teachers are not skilled or trained in the field of ICT in schools. For example, there are some schools that have computer labs, but the computer could not function properly due to technical problems. The impact of this problem has led R & D process that lasts boring and will lead to a decline in student achievement. This in turn will cause discipline problems among students has increased as well as professional teachers will be looked down upon by society. This situation occurs if the teacher does not transform themselves into a more positive direction in designing and producing the interesting activities and can provide a clear understanding to the students about a topic taught using ICT.


Are Malaysian people’s ready to adapt the ICT application in teaching and learning process?

Mentality of Malaysian society today is actually still not fully adapt the uses of ICT in teaching and learning process. Even on the outside views, many students who prefer more to learn through ICT technique compare to the traditional ways but do they actually want to learn seriously or just excited with the tools of advanced technology today.
If we seen from the lower class of people, not many of them actually have been exposed to ICT facilities which would cause some of them cannot totally adapt the integration of ICT with teaching and learning process. At last, it will affect their studies. Thus, many teachers that has a thinking like this are not sure to use these ICT facilities that provided but prefer a more on traditional learning techniques.

In addition, the perception of teachers that are afraid to use the facilities provided by the government are also one of the factors causing the process of teaching and learning is about getting less popular in school. Holmes (1999), stated that the integration of technology in teaching and learning requires teachers who are willing and flexible in the use of technology in everyday teaching subjects that their taught. Learn how to use a computer that does not suffice to enable teachers to incorporate technology in the teaching and learning process. However, the integration of ICT in teaching and learning process will not be successful if a teacher has a negative perception on this issue.
