E-portfolio

Based on what I had learned about E-portfolio, there are many kinds of portfolio we can build for our usages. It depends on how we create it and what we want to establishes.

This is because portfolios can be our goal-driven by organize collection of materials that demonstrates a person’s expansion of knowledge and skills over time or it can be an evident of individual’s growth and development. For examples, blog, scrap book and so on. E-portfolio stands for ‘education portfolio’ where it must have a content of education such as teaching portfolio. So when we want to built a blog that we can call it as e-portfolio, the content of the blog must educate the reader and have some information about education.

Besides, the teaching portfolio is good to be use by a teacher. Why I said so? By using e-portfolio as our way to approach, it allows teaching and learning to be considered in their appropriate context.

Additionally, the teacher can add in all the materials that associated with teaching, curricular units, syllabus and writing samples. So the student can get the notes directly from the e-portfolio as their resources.

Other than that, the teacher and student can communicate by email or online forum in anywhere and anytime. Indirectly, it involves students to develop communication and writing skills.

Furthermore, it more systematic in present our work and easier to be access by a student. It also can attract the student to do e-portfolio as learning portfolio for their usage. But how it can attract the student? When we make e-portfolio, we can design our blog as a creative we are. If the design is beautiful and attractive, it can make the student want to create the blog just same with it.

Teacher can provide sometime to teach the student to create and use the blog in a good way. Then, the teacher must give encouragement to student to build their own blog of learning portfolio. So the student will enjoy to learn and can be a creative thinking in doing the blog where it can be remain long last term.

Interactive Whiteboard

In this ICT course I had learnt about interactive whiteboard (IWB) and how to use it. This interactive white board is really interesting. I never experiance using IWB before. Its physical appearance quite same as common whiteboard but its function is more advand as we can touch and play with it. Moreover It is very easy to handle it and I believe that learning process will be more effective and interesting when we are using interactive white in classroom. Besides I also have identify there are o lots of advantages of IWB.

1. They provide electronically all the familiar features of a traditional classroom blackboard or ordinary whiteboard.
2. They replace the scenario of a large group crowding around a single computer. The interactive whiteboard allows a large group to sit and participate comfortably in a presentation.
3. You can enhance any presentation or lesson by easily integrating video, animation, graphics, text and audio with the spoken presentation.
4. You can display material from a number sources such as CD-ROMs, websites, DVDs, VHS tapes and television. There are other methods of presentation of information on the horizon offering further flexibility.
5. You can usually edit information directly during lessons and save any changes or additions to the computer.

In order to improve education effective learning, I think all the school in Malaysia should practice this at school.

Here is the step how to use stella for trial version.

STEP 1: you have to download stella software from link below http://www.iseesystems.com/softwares/Education/StellaSoftware.aspx

STEP 2: Select your operating system (Windows or Mac OS)
·         I only use for the trial version ( 30 days trial), If you want to use this software completely you have to purchase it.

STEP 3: Now do the simple installation to you computer. When it done choose SAMPLE MODEL for education and research in the website again.

STEP 4: SAVE and OPEN the sample.
STEP 5:
Click CONDUCT EXPERIMENT.
STEP 6:
Explore the SIMULATION CONTROL PANEL by changing the variable to get the different results.

Here is my report on one of the model that I choose (click the link below)

ICT in Education

written by Unknown 11/10/2012 0 kind-hearted people

ICT stand for information and communication technology in education. At first we heard about it we always think just about computer right?

But, actually a good way to think about ICT is to consider all the users of digital technology that already exist to help individual, businesses and organisation use information. Moreover ICT cover any product that will store, retrieve, manipulation, transmit or receive information electronically in a digital form. For example personal computers, digital television, email and robots.

The main purpose of ICT in education means implementing of ICT equipment and tools in teaching and learning process as a media and methodology. The purpose of ICT in education is generally to familiarise students with the use and workings of computers, and related social and ethical issues.

ICT has also enabled learning through multiple intelligence as ICT has introduced learning through simulation games; this enables active learning through all senses. This will make learning process will become more effective and interesting. Teaching process also will be smooth by using ICT.

Simulation & Modelling

written by Unknown 11/09/2012 0 kind-hearted people

Based on what I had learned about a simulation and modelling, both are definitely different. Simulation is the exploration of existing models where it can provide a concrete visual experience of the abstract. For example, by using simulation the students can investigate life processes which are far too lengthy, study complex interactions and simulate manufacturing processes. Other than that, we can use simulation to replace the difficult, dangerous or costly experiments to show the student.

For modelling, it is the expression of one’s ideas by constructing one’s own models where it enables students to explore the effects of changing data and relationships of physical systems. Thus it can help student better in understanding of phenomena involved. But we can use both into one lesson.

This is because the simulation and modelling can be related to each other according to the topic that we want to teach. It also depends on how we as a teacher plan to use the lesson by going through the process where we must look at the content of the lesson and does it relates to the syllabus.

When we use a simulation and modelling in teaching a science subjects, we can involve them directly in this activity. Why I said so? When we give an opportunity to them to come out in front of the class and show the movement of modelling, the student will be appreciated and excited to get a new experience in this kind of learning. It will make a student enjoy to study in class and better understand in scientific process and science concepts.

Furthermore, it can make more fun and attractive in doing the lesson. Unfortunately, even we had a best simulation and modelling, without an additional explanation about these courseware it can affect the T&L lesson. This is because by extra explanation it can make student clearly understand about the topic that we teach that day. It also will strengthen students’ knowledge. By the end of the lesson, we can conclude by summarize this activity with our own creative idea to make the student really understand for the topic that we teach.

Data Logging

written by Unknown 11/08/2012 0 kind-hearted people

After conducting this practical, we found that there are a lot of advantages of using data logging device over the manual data collecting method. The most significant advantage is measurement is always taken at the right time. Unlike human, the device will not miss to take a reading and data logger can collect data more often even at every second in which humans normally cannot.

Besides that, all the usual mistakes made by human while taking the measurement can be avoid when using this application.  For example humans can make errors when they read the temperature of a thermometer and the result is always not very accurate. But, by using data logger all the possible error made by human can be eliminate and it can make measurements with greater accuracy.  Not only that, graphs and tables of results also can be produced automatically by the data logging software since the data is available straight away to be analyzed by the computer. In that case, it allows data to be shared easily among students and allow the data to be analyzed much more easily than data collected by hand. Furthermore, it frees our mind from difficulties in manual graph drawing.

Moreover, data logger can store and collect data independently and save data in memory, therefore a person does not need to go and collect it. With this advantage, in the real practical class situation students will have more time to relate practical to theory while the measurement is recorded by the data logger. With this, the data logging software can give rise to much discussion, asking question, writing-up the experiment and so on. Also, because of the time saving factor when using data logging equipment, students will have opportunities to re-doing the experiment to get better results and also gives students the opportunity to quickly try out ideas with different data.

However, for a new user like us more practical need to be conducted because before a data logging system can be used we need to consider a few things including what we want to measure, what type of sensors we will use for our measuring, what range we will need our sensors to take measurements, where we will position the sensors and over how long the measurements will take place (the period of logging). Without proper training we might encounter problem when dealing with this device. For example, the device might not operate as what we want and we might take longer time to set up the equipment.

Despite all the advantages, data logger is very sensitive toward the surrounding condition. Therefore, it is important to take into account all the outside parameters that may affect the result of the experiments. In addition, teacher must be prepared to encourage their students to talk about what they are doing and findings because while waiting for the device to take the reading, students might spend their time talking about other things.

As conclusion, if data logging is to be successfully introduced into school laboratories then teachers must look carefully at their teaching methods and be prepared because the effect might turn the other way round.
